Beehiiv vs Kit: Best for Newsletters, Automations, and Digital Products?
Published 8/23/2026
Beehiiv and Kit—formerly ConvertKit—can both publish newsletters, collect subscribers, automate emails, and monetize an audience. They are not interchangeable, however. The better choice depends on what your email list is supposed to sell.

Quick answer
Choose beehiiv if the newsletter itself is the business: you want a publication website, audience-growth tools, paid subscriptions, and an ad network in one platform.
Choose Kit if email is the sales engine for a creator business: you want to segment subscribers, build automated funnels, and sell digital products, courses, coaching, or services.
That is an editorial recommendation, not a universal ranking. Beehiiv can sell digital products and Kit can run paid newsletters. The deciding question is whether you are primarily building a newsletter publication or an email-led product and service business.
For cost-conscious beginners, Kit Free supports up to 10,000 subscribers and beehiiv Free up to 2,500 active subscribers. Neither free plan includes custom email automations: Kit requires a paid plan for Visual Automations and Email Sequences. Kit Free includes five editable Smart Recommendation slots, and recommendations can be turned off. beehiiv Free does not include paid subscriptions or the Ad Network. Choose beehiiv if
- Your newsletter content and audience are the product.
- Paid subscriptions, advertising, recommendations, and a publication website are central to your business model.

- You use newsletters to sell digital products, courses, coaching, memberships, or services.
- Subscriber tags, segments, sequences, and visual sales automations are central to your funnel.
- You want a free plan for up to 10,000 subscribers and do not need Visual Automations or Email Sequences until you upgrade.
- You prefer Kit Commerce's transaction-based pricing to paying for a separate storefront at the start.

Pricing by subscriber count
Pricing and related plan features updated October 4, 2026. Current sources: beehiiv pricing · beehiiv plan types · Kit pricing · Kit Free plan
The 1,000-subscriber prices below were checked on October 4, 2026. Prices retain the $ symbol shown on the English pricing pages; confirm currency and taxes at checkout. Kit's annual effective monthly figures are calculated from its stated annual invoices. beehiiv's annual-billing monthly figures are the site's displayed rates; no annual invoice has been inferred by multiplying those figures by 12. Monthly billing and annual billing are different commitments.
For a plan-by-plan cost breakdown, see our beehiiv pricing guide.
Both platforms price paid plans by subscriber tier. beehiiv counts active subscribers across all publications in the workspace, rather than granting a separate subscriber allowance to each publication. For 2,500, 5,000, or 10,000 subscribers, use the current pricing calculator: those paid-tier quotes were not reverified in this update. Existing-account transition or grandfathering terms have not been confirmed. Kit pricing · beehiiv pricing · beehiiv subscriber-tier table
Kit pricing at 1,000 subscribers
| Subscribers | Plan | Monthly billing | Annual invoice | Annual effective monthly (calculated) |

Pro adds advanced analytics, a referral system, unlimited users, and A/B testing of up to five subject lines or email content. Kit displays the annual-billing monthly rates as $33 and $66; the invoice-based calculations in the table retain cents. Kit pricing and plan comparison · Kit Free plan
Beehiiv pricing at 1,000 active subscribers
| Active subscribers | Plan | Monthly billing | Monthly rate displayed with annual billing | Annual invoice |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1,000 | Free | $0 | Free | Not applicable |
| 1,000 | Lite | $59 | $49 | Not independently confirmed |
| 1,000 | Pro | $109 | $95 | Not independently confirmed |
beehiiv Free supports up to 2,500 active subscribers, one publication, and unlimited sends. Lite includes paid subscriptions, the Ad Network, up to 10 custom automations, and three publications; beehiiv branding remains. Pro includes branding removal, unlimited custom automations, and 10 publications. Team seats are 1 on Free, 2 on Lite, and 10 on Pro; Enterprise has custom pricing. beehiiv pricing and feature comparison
Which platform is cheaper?
For list storage and newsletter sending alone, Kit's free ceiling is materially higher: 10,000 active unique subscribers versus beehiiv Free's 2,500 active subscribers.
Kit Creator and beehiiv Pro are the relevant plans when unlimited custom automations are required; beehiiv Lite is limited to 10. At 1,000 subscribers, Creator costs $39 with monthly billing versus $109 for beehiiv Pro. This does not settle total cost: a paid-newsletter operator must also compare transaction fees and workflow needs. beehiiv lists a 0% platform take rate on paid subscriptions, while Kit Commerce's published USD rate is 3.5% + $0.30 per transaction including card processing. Revenue volume and average order value matter alongside the subscription bill.
Newsletter and website features
Beehiiv: publication infrastructure first
beehiiv combines a newsletter with a hosted publication website. Free includes one publication and unlimited email sends; Lite supports three publications and Pro supports 10. Pro removes beehiiv branding, which remains on Free and Lite. Check the current feature grid for the website tools required by your workflow. beehiiv plan comparison
These features make beehiiv a logical fit when the newsletter archive, public website, and publication brand are part of the product. That is an editorial conclusion based on the documented feature set—not a claim that its website builder is objectively easier or better than Kit's.
Kit: email capture and creator-site tools
Kit includes unlimited landing pages and forms, a newsletter feed and mini-site, customizable domains, opt-in incentive delivery, tagging, segmentation, and unlimited broadcasts on the Free plan. Paid plans remove Kit branding and expand automation and integration capabilities. Kit pricing · Kit Free plan
Kit's website tools can host newsletter content and acquisition pages. The strategic reason to choose Kit is usually not a claim about superior web publishing; it is the connection between forms, subscriber data, sequences, automations, and product sales.
Automation and subscriber management
Kit automation
Kit Free does not include Visual Automations or Email Sequences. Creator and Pro include unlimited versions of both. Tags, segments, and custom fields organize subscribers; paid automation features add the sequences and conditional workflows used for sales funnels. Kit Free plan
For a product launch, course enrollment, coaching inquiry, or service funnel, the important advantage is the documented combination of sequences, actions, tags, custom fields, and conditional paths. This does not prove that Kit is easier to use, more reliable, or better at deliverability; those claims would require controlled testing that is outside this comparison.
Beehiiv automation
beehiiv Free does not include custom automations. Lite supports up to 10 custom automations, while Pro supports unlimited custom automations. Choose the plan against the number and type of workflows you actually need, and confirm individual triggers in the current feature grid. beehiiv pricing and feature comparison
Beehiiv can therefore run automated email workflows, not just one-off newsletters. The reason Kit remains our recommendation for product and service funnels is the alignment of its documented automation model and Commerce workflow with that business model—not an assertion that beehiiv's automations cannot support a specific workflow.
A note on beehiiv's 14-day trial
beehiiv's plan guide describes a 14-day trial of Pro features with no credit card required. Trial limits apply; do not assume a trial includes every paid feature. Check the current trial terms before relying on monetization or a particular workflow. beehiiv plan and trial guide
Monetization comparison
Paid newsletters
Beehiiv: Paid subscriptions are available on Lite and above. Beehiiv states a 0% platform take rate, but Stripe or another applicable payment processor still charges its own processing fees. “0% platform fee” is not the same as “no fees.” beehiiv pricing · Stripe pricing
Kit: Paid newsletters can be sold through Commerce on every plan, including Free. For USD sales, Kit charges 3.5% + $0.30 per transaction, including card processing. Do not add a second standard Stripe charge to that published Kit rate. Kit Commerce fees
Editorially, beehiiv's fee structure is more attractive when recurring subscription revenue is large enough to justify the paid software plan. Kit may be more attractive before revenue is predictable because native subscriptions are available on the free plan. The break-even point depends on your subscriber tier, paid conversion rate, price, refunds, taxes, and average transaction value.
Digital products, courses, coaching, and services
Beehiiv: The current pricing page lists digital products among the features included across plans. Confirm the product type, selling limits, payment setup, and appointment support you need in the current feature grid before choosing a plan. beehiiv digital products · beehiiv pricing
Kit: Commerce is available on every plan. Kit documents support for digitally delivered products such as ebooks, courses, templates, presets, music, paid newsletters, and access to a link or hosted course. USD transactions cost 3.5% + $0.30 including card processing. On paid plans, Kit can also connect subscriber purchases with email sequences and automations. Kit Commerce overview · Kit pricing
Kit is our recommendation when the main goal is to use email behavior and subscriber data to sell products or services. That does not mean Kit is a complete learning-management system or coaching-delivery platform. Confirm how your course, appointments, community, and fulfillment will be delivered before committing.
Advertising and sponsorships
Beehiiv: The Ad Network is available on Lite and above for publications actively sending on beehiiv. Publishers must configure ad preferences, select up to three content tags, add a detailed publication description, and use Stripe Express in a supported country for payouts. Offers and earnings are not guaranteed; actual revenue depends on eligible opens or payable clicks and available campaigns. Direct Sponsorships are separate; confirm their current plan eligibility before relying on them. beehiiv Ad Network FAQ · Stripe Express setup
Kit: Kit was not accepting new applications for Programmatic Ads as of July 15, 2026. Existing participants must meet setup requirements including a custom subdomain, Stripe connection, acceptance of advertising terms, and account approval. Kit also offers CPC newsletter sponsorship campaigns: browsing and expressing interest require a paid Kit plan, and brands make the final placement decision. Kit states that it charges 23.5% of total ad revenue for operating the service. Kit Programmatic Ads status · Kit Newsletter Sponsorships
For a new creator whose business plan depends on native ad inventory, beehiiv has the clearer current path. Neither platform can guarantee demand, campaign fit, fill rate, or income.
Recommendations
Both platforms support recommendation networks. Kit Free provides five editable Smart Recommendation slots, and recommendations can be turned off without changing the plan. Paid plans receive priority in recommendations; earning from Paid Recommendations requires a paid plan. Kit Free plan · Kit recommendation controls
beehiiv Free includes its Recommendation Network. Check the current paid-recommendation and trial terms before planning revenue from recommendations; network participation does not guarantee earnings. beehiiv pricing · beehiiv trial exclusions
Best platform by business model
| Business model | Recommendation | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Free newsletter growing toward ads | beehiiv, if you can budget for Lite before monetization | Its paid plan combines publication tools with an Ad Network; access and earnings are conditional |
| Paid newsletter | beehiiv for a newsletter-first business; Kit for the lowest fixed-cost start | beehiiv has a 0% platform take rate on Lite; Kit enables subscriptions on its free plan but charges per transaction |
| Ebook, template, or digital download business | Kit | Commerce is available on every plan and connects to Kit's email funnel model |
| Course creator | Kit, with a separate delivery check | Kit documents course and hosted-link sales and provides funnel-oriented automations; verify the learning platform or fulfillment layer |
| Coach or consultant | Kit for lead nurture and sales funnels, with a separate delivery check | Kit's paid sequences and automations align with lead qualification; verify appointment and fulfillment requirements separately |
| Sponsorship-led publication | beehiiv | Its Ad Network is currently open to eligible Lite users, while new Kit Programmatic applications are paused |
| Creator with up to 10,000 subscribers and no automation needs | Kit Free | Up to 10,000 subscribers; no Visual Automations or Email Sequences |
| Multi-publication media operation under 10,000 subscribers | beehiiv | Free: one publication; Lite: three; Pro: 10. Active subscribers are totaled across the workspace |

Migration and long-term risks
What you can export from Kit
Kit documents subscriber CSV exports containing email, first name, signup date and time, status, tags, location, attribution data, and custom fields. It also documents CSV exports for selected subscriber and analytics charts, with some reports restricted by plan. Export Kit subscribers · Export Kit chart data
Kit also lets users share a Visual Automation into another Kit account, including associated tags, sequences, email content, custom fields, and forms. That is not evidence of a generic cross-platform automation export. Share a Kit Visual Automation
What you can export from beehiiv
Beehiiv documents CSV exports for published, archived, and draft posts. Subscriber exports are available in Quick and Full formats; Full exports add custom fields and subscriber statistics. Export beehiiv posts and subscribers
What is not guaranteed
A subscriber or content CSV proves that data can be downloaded. It does not prove that another platform can recreate automations, historical analytics, domain configuration, payment relationships, or every status and field without transformation.
The official materials reviewed for this article do not confirm a complete, platform-neutral export for:
- Kit broadcast and sequence content in bulk;
- beehiiv automation structures;
- complete analytics history and domain configuration from either platform; or
- paid-subscription contracts in every migration direction and payment setup.
Those items should be treated as unconfirmed, not as features that do not exist.
There is one documented high-risk case: beehiiv states that paid subscriptions managed through Kit and Stripe Express cannot be transferred directly because the required customer, payment-method, and subscription data is not exposed. It says an external Standard Stripe setup may allow migration. For newsletter archives, beehiiv's guide (checked October 5, 2026) documents Settings → Content Import → Kit, using your Kit newsletter site URL. Paywalled Kit posts must be made public temporarily for this import, then have paywalls restored individually in beehiiv; if temporary public exposure is unacceptable, agree on another approach with support before proceeding. Migrate from Kit to beehiiv For the pre-switch checks, see our Kit to beehiiv migration checklist.
Before switching platforms, export your available data, inventory every automation and integration, document DNS and sending-domain records, map tags and custom fields, and test paid-subscriber continuity. Do not cancel the old account until sending, forms, payments, and redirects work in the new system.

Avoid beehiiv if
- You need automations but want to stay permanently on the free plan.
- You expect Ad Network access to guarantee offers or revenue.
- Your primary requirement is a product or service sales funnel and Kit's tag-and-sequence model fits it more directly.
- You need removal of beehiiv branding but do not want the Pro plan.
Kit is best for
- Creators selling ebooks, templates, courses, memberships, coaching, or services through email.
- Solopreneurs who need tags, segments, sequences, and visual automations around a customer journey.
- Lists of up to 10,000 subscribers that can operate without Visual Automations or Email Sequences on the free plan.
- Sellers who prefer no monthly Commerce fee at the start and accept a per-transaction charge.
Avoid Kit if
- Immediate access to a native programmatic ad network is essential; new Kit Programmatic Ads applications are paused.
- A 0% platform fee on native paid subscriptions or digital products is a firm requirement.
- You need unlimited automations but do not want a paid plan.
- You need to earn from Paid Recommendations while staying on a free plan.

Final verdict
For a creator building a newsletter as the product, choose beehiiv. Its publication website, growth systems, 0% platform take rate, and accessible Ad Network on Lite align more directly with paid-subscription and advertising models.
For a creator using email to sell products, courses, coaching, or services, choose Kit. Its free 10,000-subscriber ceiling and its paid automation features alongside tags, integrations, and Commerce align more directly with an email-led sales system.
Do not choose from a generic feature count. Write down your primary revenue event—subscription renewal, ad impression or click, product purchase, course enrollment, or sales call—and select the platform whose documented workflow supports that event with the fewest paid dependencies and migration risks.

Methodology
This comparison originally reviewed official Kit, beehiiv, and Stripe documentation on August 21, 2026. A targeted October 4, 2026 correction rechecked current plan names, the 1,000-subscriber prices, free-plan automation and recommendation rules, and related plan limits. Other subjects, including migration and detailed ad-program eligibility, retain the earlier review scope. No hands-on product, deliverability, or support-quality test was performed; affiliate-program terms were not used as product-feature evidence.
We compared both products using the same criteria: free limits, subscriber-tier pricing, annual billing, newsletter and website features, automation, subscriber management, paid subscriptions, digital products, advertising, recommendations, team access, and documented data portability.
Officially stated prices, limits, fees, and eligibility rules are treated as facts. Kit's annual effective monthly prices are calculated from its annual invoice amounts; beehiiv's annual-billing monthly rates are displayed quotes, not calculated annual totals. Business-model recommendations are editorial judgments. Unconfirmed details are identified as such.
